Window Cleaning

Window Cleaning Helps You Save on Electricity Bills!

Anyone who has lived in a taller glass-fronted building is probably familiar with the annual spring disputes between neighbours over window cleaning. “The room is dark, you can’t see out the window,” some complain. “The streets are still dusty, the windows will get dirty again right away,” others say, trying to put off cleaning the windows.

Managers of business buildings face a similar dilemma, under pressure to keep costs and revenue in balance.

Tips for Managing Tall Buildings

Using a filtered water telescopic pole system, windows can be cleaned up to the height of the fifth floor. This method works best for lightly soiled windows; very dirty windows need to be washed several times, which means extra time and, in turn, cancels out the price advantage over cleaning from a lift.

Another downside of this type of telescopic pole is the risk that the cleaner will not notice dirt on windows on higher floors. The biggest obstacle when cleaning windows with a long telescopic pole is strong crosswind.
There are several options for cleaning windows on the upper floors of a building. Which option should be used to get the expected result with minimal costs?

Washing windows with a regular telescopic pole or a ladder is the most affordable option, but the downside is that the window cleaner cannot properly reach higher than the second floor. For example, with a longer telescopic pole that would reach as far as the third floor windows, work quality drops significantly and time spent increases.

Cleaning from a lift gives good access to windows and ensures proper work quality: sills and frames can be cleaned too. However, there are locations where access by lift is difficult, or where street traffic may need to be temporarily closed, for example. As always, achieving good quality requires a bigger financial investment.

The Right Time for Window Cleaning

There are several additional factors that cause windows to get dirty: proximity to a road, trees that release a lot of resin or pollen, a higher-than-usual number of birds and other similar reasons. As a rule, windows are washed once or twice a year, or more often for the reasons mentioned above.

The best conditions for cleaning windows are calm, dry and overcast weather, since the cleaning product will not dry too quickly and the cleaner can work effectively. The thermometer should also show above zero degrees, otherwise a stronger cleaning solution needs to be used.

Consumer vs Professional Tools

Tools designed for home use work well for cleaning windows from the inside, since there is good access to the whole window surface.

Cleaning windows from the outside usually involves more difficult manoeuvring and more stubborn dirt, which creates a need for a professional window-washing sponge, a squeegee, a telescopic pole and a scraper for removing ground-in dirt.
It is worth learning thoroughly how to remove dirt with a scraper beforehand, since the risk of damaging the window glass is high!

A ladder or some kind of lifting equipment is also often needed to reach higher areas: the best result is achieved when the cleaner is as close as possible to the surface being cleaned. Another important point is that professionals are accountable for the results of their work.

Dirt that has become stuck to a window increases the risk of various permanent damage, so it is safe to say that window cleaning extends their lifespan. Clean windows also generally give a building a more pleasant appearance.
