What to Consider When Ordering Maintenance Cleaning? Part II

This article is Part II, covering the aspects a client should consider when ordering maintenance cleaning. In the previous part, we looked at why this cleaning service matters in the first place, and what you should know about how maintenance cleaning relates to specialised cleaning work.

We also covered factors to consider when ordering maintenance cleaning, such as the size of the premises, frequency and footfall.

Do unusual layouts mean extra cost?

Alongside area, frequency and footfall, another important factor when ordering maintenance cleaning is the character of the premises – the layout, furnishing and complexity.

To illustrate, two different sites of 1,000 m² can be completely different: one might contain many small rooms densely packed with office furniture, which creates a larger effective cleaning area and therefore a higher cost.
The other site might instead have spacious rooms and halls with little furniture, meaning no extra cleaning area or cost is created. On the other hand, a client should also expect extra costs if the site involves demanding additional tasks or special requests that fall outside the standard scope of maintenance cleaning.

The conclusion is that sites of the same size can end up with entirely different costs, and therefore a different price for the cleaning service.

A good location works in the client’s favour

Alongside the character and furnishing of the premises, the location itself is just as important. When ordering maintenance cleaning for a site in an area with poor infrastructure, expect an extra cost due to transport expenses.

For example, a 400 m² site cleaned twice a week in Tallinn’s city centre may end up costing roughly the same as a 200 m² site cleaned twice a week in a suburban area with poor accessibility.
To conclude, based on Parts I and II of this article, the monthly cost of office cleaning for business premises can depend on a wide range of factors, from the size and level of soiling to the complexity and location of the site.

The factors that affect the cost of a cleaning service can also be closely interlinked, where one factor determines the importance of another. Clients should therefore always keep in mind that a quote for regular maintenance cleaning can’t be based on floor area alone.

That’s why it’s always advisable to consult specialists in the field and review the site and tasks together, so the best possible solution can be put together for the client.
