Most business premises need a thorough window clean twice a year, in spring and in autumn. Glass facing the street, shop windows and entrances need it more often. The price comes from height, the number of windows, the condition of the frames and the access, not from the square metres of glass alone.

Why clean windows matter on business premises

Clean windows affect more than how a building looks. In an office, a shop or a showroom the glass is on view all the time and dirt shows up fast. Dust, pollen, road grime and rain marks also cut the daylight that reaches the room. In a space with a lot of glass the difference is easy to see.

Glass is also one of the few surfaces a customer notices before coming in. The shop window, the facade and the glass doors give the first impression of the company. On glass left unwashed for a long time the dirt settles as an even layer, and nobody notices it until there is one clean window next to it.

How often to clean windows on business premises

How often windows need washing depends on where the building stands and how it is used. For most offices a thorough clean in spring and in autumn works well. Windows facing the street may need more frequent attention, because traffic keeps bringing fresh dust and splashes onto the glass.

Shop windows and entrance glazing usually need closer care, because fingerprints show there straight away. Internal glass partitions and glass doors can be written into the maintenance cleaning schedule. They are then kept clean on every visit and no separate order is needed.

The best time for window cleaning

Dry weather at a moderate temperature suits window cleaning best. In strong direct sun the cleaning solution dries on the glass too quickly and the result can be streaks. Work at height also has to allow for wind. If the access or the weather makes the job unsafe, the working time has to be moved.

That is why it pays to book a time early. In spring many buildings order the work at once and free slots run short. In a working office it makes sense to clean in the morning before the day starts or after it ends, so the work disturbs nobody and the glass can dry in peace.

What the price of window cleaning depends on

The price of window cleaning does not follow the square metres of glass alone. Height, the number of windows, how dirty the glass is, the state of the frames and reveals and the access all count. Ground floor windows are simpler than glass high up. If a lift platform or other special equipment is needed, that shows in the cost as well.

It is worth asking of any quote whether frames, reveals and window sills are part of the work. Two quotes can be compared only when both cover the same scope. If one lists the glass alone and the other the whole window with the frame, the gap in price tells you nothing.

Work at height needs separate attention

Cleaning windows high up is not ordinary cleaning work. It brings in training, equipment, anchor points and liability insurance. Before the job starts, the client does well to ask how the work will be carried out and what access it needs.

That avoids the situation where it turns out on the day that the lift platform cannot reach the building or the agreed method does not fit. If there is a car park, planting or a narrow street around the building, that should be settled in advance too.
